In a world defined by rapid pluralism, the need for nuanced understanding has never been greater. The IIIT Bosnian Summer School equips students, professionals, and academics with the unique tools required to navigate the complexities of modern Europe. Featuring a faculty of diverse, internationally acknowledged scholars, the program offers an academically rigorous curriculum that moves beyond theory. Through innovative analysis and critical dialogue, participants will explore the challenges and opportunities of pluralism, gaining the intellectual depth required to contribute meaningfully to contemporary discourse.
Admission criteria
This programme is intended exclusively for graduate students currently based in Europe. We invite applications from candidates enrolled in Islamic studies, the humanities, or the social sciences who are motivated to deepen their scholarly expertise and critically engage with the contemporary challenges of pluralism.
Opportunity for participants
This program prioritizes meaningful exchange over monologue. Through interactive sessions, participants will discuss their research, engage with peers’ work, and benefit from collective intellectual engagement in a setting designed for deep, collaborative learning.
Requirements
The program offers 35 hours of interactive learning, combining research seminars and guided instruction. Beyond the classroom, participants will have dedicated opportunities to read, exchange ideas, and engage in meaningful dialogue during breaks and educational visits.

Venue
Sarajevo offers an unparalleled setting to explore Islam in Europe. Its streets tell stories of coexistence, conflict, and resilience—making it the ideal place to experience pluralism firsthand. Participants will draw inspiration from the city's unique energy while deepening their academic pursuits. The program also includes a visit to the Srebrenica Memorial Center, providing a space for reflection on the challenges of pluralism and the consequences of its failure.
IMPORTANT NOTES
- Accommodation & Meals: The organizers cover accommodation in multi-bed rooms and provide halal food throughout the program.
- Travel Scholarships: A limited number of scholarships are available to support students who cannot secure travel funding elsewhere.
- Health Insurance: Participants are responsible for arranging their own health insurance coverage.
- Excursion: An optional visit to the historic city of Mostar will be organized for interested participants.
